IKS Hamburg

Development/Design/Mechanical Strength

There are many application-oriented research institutions in Hamburg and the surrounding area that could support your projects. The IKS would like to introduce Dr Benjamin Kloss-Grote, who is a professor of machine elements and machine systems at the University of Applied Sciences (HAW).

Prof. Kloss-Grote focuses on the following topics:

  • Design and mechanical fundamentals of machine elements and machine systems
  • Special focus: screw connections Constructional strength (static, dynamic)
  • Product management, product development, technical project management
  • Analysis of damage cases (together with colleagues from materials engineering)

Having worked in the development and product management of steam turbines for large power plants, he is interested in products and developments that push the boundaries of current requirements, materials and mechanical models.

Depending on the nature of the issue raised by your company, various forms of collaboration are available. Professor Kloss-Grothe particularly welcomes small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Collaboration is possible within the framework of:

  • Student practical projects: A group of students works on your project over the course of one semester.
  • Bachelor’s and Master’s theses: one student works on a practical task for three to six months.
  • Individual projects commissioned by companies from HAW Hamburg.
  • Participation in joint projects

Prof. Kloss-Grote’s previous industry collaborations in Hamburg include companies from the shipbuilding industry (Blohm+Voss B.V. & Co. KG (NVL Group), special machine construction (Körber Technologies GmbH, formerly Hauni), special component construction for plant engineering (LESER GmbH & Co. KG), and metal processing (Aurubis AG).

Further information on Prof. Kloss-Grote can be found on the HAW Hamburg website.
