As a professor at the University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Gärtner is very interested in addressing application-oriented topics.

- Publication collaborations
- Individual contract research/studies
- Expert discussions, lectures and workshops
- Public events and panels
- Publicly funded cooperation projects such as PROFI from the Hamburg Investment and Development Bank or ZIM from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.

The following tasks have already been worked on in collaboration with companies:
- Derivation and development of a production planning concept for a maintenance plant, taking into account the data situation and corporate culture
